The ceremony was graced by the school’s patron, the Most Reverend Martin Kivuva, who is also the Archbishop of the #Mombasa Diocese of the #Catholic Church and the current chairperson of KENYA CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS – The GENERAL SECRETARIAT of Catholic Church Bishops. Although unfamiliar with the Most Reverend, I quickly learned that he is an approachable, humble, and happy individual who exudes authority. During an interview, I gained valuable insights into his life and accomplishments.

The Most Reverend was born in 1952 in #Machakos County but relocated to Kwale County with his parents in 1962. He attended Kichaka Samba Primary School before joining St. Mary’s Junior Seminary for his O level and later #St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Nairobi for his Philosophy and Theology studies. His exemplary performance earned him ordination as a priest in 1978 and a posting to work in Mwatate Parish. After years of service to the church, he was appointed bishop on 15 March 2003 and ordained and installed as the Bishop of Machakos on 3 June 2003 at Machakos Stadium.

Aside from his work in the church, the Most Reverend is an accomplished radio producer. He studied Radio Production at the All-Africa Conference of Churches in Nairobi and video and radio production at the Institute of Telecommunications in Dallas, Texas. He worked as a social communications coordinator for the Archdiocese of Mombasa in 1992 and was later appointed to work in Ukweli Video Productions in Nairobi, where he became the director, a position he held until his appointment as the Bishop of Machakos. The Most Reverend also holds certificates in building and construction from Mombasa Polytechnic, in Religious Studies from the University of Nairobi, and in aid administration from Selly Oak College in Birmingham, England.

On 9 December 2014, Bishop Martin Kivuva Musonde was appointed Archbishop of Mombasa and installed on 21 February 2015. Throughout his tenure as bishop, he championed the rights of individuals and the disadvantaged, regardless of religious affiliation. His #alma mater, St. Mary’s, played a significant role in shaping his character and gifts. During the #Homecoming ceremony, he urged fellow alumni not to neglect their former school and reminded them of their importance in developing future generations through role modeling and bursary support for needy students.

The Alumnus Challenge team was honored to meet the Most Reverend Martin Kivuva, an icon among St. Mary’s alumni. His mantra of “that all may be one” is a testament to his desire to make an impact and touch lives. The Most Reverend’s accomplishments serve as an inspiration to many and a reminder that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.

Reviving Dreams: The Transformative Power Of Alumni Support In Rescuing A Student’s Education https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/reviving-dreams-the-transformative-power-of-alumni-support-in-rescuing-a-students-education/ https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/reviving-dreams-the-transformative-power-of-alumni-support-in-rescuing-a-students-education/#respond Wed, 02 Aug 2023 11:53:05 +0000 https://alumnuschallenge.org/?p=8340 On a vibrant Friday, the 23rd of June 2023, brimmed with anticipation as the 5th Alumni Homecoming took center stage at Nanyuki High School. The occasion, organized by Alumni Challenge, an organization committed to fostering connections among alumni, held a two-fold purpose: to celebrate the triumph of Fabian Kebo and to bestow upon his Alma mater the well-deserved rewards.

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, a young boy named Michael Ekaale, a 16-year-old Form one student from Nanyuki High School, stepped into the spotlight as the beneficiary of the prestigious bursary fund. Handpicked from a pool of deserving candidates, Michael’s selection was a testament to his exceptional potential and unwavering commitment to his education.

Through the Alumni Challenge, the transformative power of the alumni community shines brightly. This social initiative envisions alumni becoming catalysts for change in their former schools by providing bursary funds, offering career guidance, and contributing to institutional development. The Alumni Homecoming Celebration embodied this vision, showcasing the tangible impact that alumni can have on the lives of current students.

Michael’s journey, filled with hurdles and uncertainties, exemplifies the profound effect that alumni support can bring. Hailing from Baragoi, Samburu North in the Samburu County of Kenya, Michael is the fourth child in a family of eleven. His father, a retired herdsman, and his mother, a hardworking partner in their three-quarter acre plot, struggled to sustain their large family amidst the arid conditions of their homeland.

Despite the adversities, Michael’s burning desire for education stood resolute. His admission to Nanyuki High School not only filled his family with hope, joy, and pride but also ignited a glimmer of possibility for a better future. However, the financial burden of school fees cast a shadow of uncertainty over Michael’s dreams.

Recognizing his potential, Michael’s teachers rallied together, mobilizing resources for his basic needs. Their tireless efforts caught the attention of Sister Eliva, a compassionate Catholic nun known for her advocacy of educational opportunities. Sister Eliva’s collaboration with a dedicated Italian missionary priest brought forth a ray of hope. Together, they pledged their support, ensuring that Michael’s education would not be cut short.

Yet, life is often unpredictable, and tragedy struck when the priest, who had become a guiding light in Michael’s journey, passed away. Grief washed over the young student, threatening to extinguish the flame of his ambition. However, in the face of this setback, Sister Eliva and Michael’s teachers stepped forward, offering unwavering reassurance that they would continue to support him through his studies.

With each passing day, Michael embraces his education with unwavering determination. His teachers stand by him, providing the essentials he needs to thrive academically and personally. Michael’s commitment to his studies shines through as he consistently achieves outstanding grades, maintaining an average performance of grade A- and harboring the ambitious goal of attaining a remarkable A grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

As the dust settles on the Alumni Homecoming Celebration, we celebrate Michael Ekaale as an embodiment of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of education. Through the bursary fund, his dreams are bolstered, and his path to success becomes more attainable.

Let us embrace the Alumni Challenge, an initiative that kindles the spirit of giving back among former students, igniting a ripple effect of change in our schools. By harnessing the power of alumni, we have the capacity to illuminate lives, break down barriers, and uplift communities. Together, let us be the catalysts of transformation and rewrite the narratives of countless students like Michael, who deserve a brighter future through education.

Uniting Generations: How Two Alumni Groups Forged A Stronger Future https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/uniting-generations-how-two-alumni-groups-forged-a-stronger-future/ https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/uniting-generations-how-two-alumni-groups-forged-a-stronger-future/#respond Wed, 02 Aug 2023 11:49:06 +0000 https://alumnuschallenge.org/?p=8334 In a truly remarkable display of #unity and collaboration, leaders Paul Mugoh and Albert Wanjau brought together two separate #Alumni groups from Nanyuki Boys High School to establish a transformative Alumni association. By transcending generational differences, they merged their respective groups, forming an indomitable force that has reshaped the trajectory of their beloved #alma mater.

The tale begins with Paul Mugoh, a member of the graduating class of 1998, who harbored a strong desire to reconnect with his fellow classmates in 2009. What initially commenced as a humble WhatsApp group for reminiscing and sharing memories quickly evolved into a vital Alumni support network. Their collective efforts encompassed providing assistance and #financial aid during challenging times, including bereavements and medical emergencies. However, it was only a decade later that Paul stumbled upon the existence of another Alumni group led by Albert Wanjau. Recognizing the immense potential in merging their forces, they wholeheartedly decided to consolidate the groups, leading to the birth of the Nanyuki Boys High Alumni Association.

Since the amalgamation, the association has achieved extraordinary milestones, harmonized their objectives and made significant strides. A primary focus of their efforts is establishing a bursary fund to support deserving and underprivileged students. In order to sustain this noble cause, the #alumni community has established an endowment fund that aims to raise and strategically invest resources to ensure students can complete their secondary education and pursue their dreams unimpeded. Remarkably, the family of the esteemed late Principal G.K. Wanjohi has graciously offered their support to the trust fund, paying homage to their father’s remarkable legacy.

To further bolster the #Endowment Trust Fund, the Alumni Association has planned a momentous three-day “WALK” from Nanyuki to Nairobi, scheduled for the 4th, 5th, and 6th of August 2023. This captivating fundraising event endeavors to galvanize resources that will empower future generations of students, leaving a lasting and transformative impact.

As we reflect upon this inspiring narrative, it is evident that the bonds of Alumni affiliation can transcend time and generations, uniting individuals for a common cause. The Nanyuki Boys High Alumni Association stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the unwavering commitment to uplift and strengthen educational institutions. Together, they have forged a path towards a brighter and more prosperous future, symbolizing the unyielding spirit of their beloved school.

Colors Of Transformation: Crown Paints and Alumni Challenge Give Schools a New Coat Of Hope https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/colors-of-transformation-crown-paints-and-alumni-challenge-give-schools-a-new-coat-of-hope/ https://alumnichallenge.foundation/2023/08/02/colors-of-transformation-crown-paints-and-alumni-challenge-give-schools-a-new-coat-of-hope/#respond Wed, 02 Aug 2023 11:46:22 +0000 https://alumnuschallenge.org/?p=8331 Once vibrant and full of life, the walls of many schools now bear the weight of time and hardship. With #financial constraints heightened by the devastating impact of #covid19, most educational institutions find themselves struggling to maintain their physical infrastructure. Among the casualties of this struggle is the once-gleaming paintwork that now stands faded, cracked, and rusty.

In the midst of this gloomy picture, a ray of hope emerges through the collaborative efforts of Crown Paints Kenya Plc and the Alumni Challenge. Together, they have joined forces to breathe new life into schools by providing a fresh coat of paint.

The Alumni Challenge, through its flagship program, the #Alumni Golf Challenge, creates a platform that #unites alumni from various walks of life. This sports tournament not only rekindles the camaraderie among former students but also aims to give back to the educational institutions that laid the foundation for their success.

The winning school is bestowed with the ultimate prize – a #bursary fund to support deserving students and an array of gifts tailored to enhance the institution’s learning environment. Among these gifts is a generous supply of high-quality paints, courtesy of Crown Paints.

The most recent champion, Nanyuki High School, was the proud recipient of a substantial donation of paints worth fifty thousand shillings. The momentous occasion took place during the Alumni Homecoming, a heartwarming celebration held in honor of the alma mater’s esteemed alumni.

As the beaming alumnus, Eng. Fabian Kebo, presented the gift to the school, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and gratitude. “This is not just about applying paint on walls; it’s about painting a brighter future for our students,” he expressed passionately.

Indeed, the impact of Crown Paints’ support extends far beyond the transformation of physical spaces. It is a symbol of rejuvenation and optimism, reflecting the commitment of the Alumni Challenge and Crown Paints to uplift the educational landscape.

With every stroke of the brush, the colors of transformation come alive. Classrooms that once wore a tired facade now beam with fresh inspiration. Hallways, once dull and dreary, now resonate with the vibrancy of learning. Playgrounds, where laughter echoes, are brought to life with renewed energy.

The collaboration between Crown Paints Kenya Plc and the Alumni Challenge is a testament to the profound change that can be achieved when corporate social responsibility and alumni #passion converge. It is a beacon of #hope for schools that have weathered the storm, assuring them that they are not alone in their pursuit of excellence.

As the sun sets on the old rusty paintwork, a new dawn emerges with hues of promise and possibility. Together, Crown Paints and the Alumni Challenge are painting a future where every school shines brightly, and every student is empowered to dream big.

Let us all join hands, support the Alumni Challenge, and become catalysts for #transformative change in our schools and communities. Together, we will paint a future that inspires and uplifts generations to come.
